“The Connie Converse Universe”, starring Hope Levy” is a live one-hour music show exploring the true story and music from our first female singer-songwriter who disappeared in August of 1974.
Before Joni, Baez and the folk scene hit the scene in the 1960s, there was a brilliant singer-songwriter named Connie Converse performing self-written songs for friends in the early 1950s.
No one else was singing songs like Connie’s quirky, personal, odd ball tunes especially for a women in the 1950s.
Ms. Converse and her songs were captured in her friend’s kitchen on a reel to reel in 1954.
Twenty years later, Connie Converse disappeared never to be seen or heard from again.
Fifty-five years after her songs were originally recorded, the world heard them when her first CD, “How Sad, How Lovely”, comprised of her original kitchen recordings came out in 2009 and went viral on Spotify.
LA Based singer-songwriter, Hope Levy, will be performing her interpretations of Connie Converse’s songs as well as offering glimmers into Connie’s world though Ms. Converse’s lyrics, character and story.
Join me as I entertain you Saturday, May 20 th @8pm and Sunday, May 21 st @5pm with the songs from Connie Converse’s Universe, starring Hope Levy live at the El Portal Theatre's Monroe Forum in the NOHO Arts District.
