Sonikete Blues is a fascinating continuation of previous endeavors taken by Flamenco, Classical, and Jazz musicians to investigate the similarities between their genres. This performance focuses on Flamenco rhythms and improvisation as they relate to Delta Blues and Jazz harmony. After living and performing for more than 10 years within the Gypsy Flamenco circuit in Seville, Spain, Ethan Margolis (guitarist/composer/vocalist), brings his modern hybrid concept to El Portal Theatre on September 11, 2016.
Featuring acclaimed artists like pianists Chano Dominguez (Blue Note Records) and Deron Johnson (Miles Davis Band), Flamenco dancer Cihtli Ocampo, and Gypsy rhythmicist Luis de la Tota from Jerez, Spain, Sonikete Blues promises to be a thrilling evening of improvisation, dance and deep song. This performance follows the release of Margolis's album Sonikete Blues which will be released July, 2016. Margolis's past artistic collaborations include Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), Judith Hill (20 Feet From Stardom), Miguel El Funi, El Farru, and Jimmy Haslip (co-founder Yellowjackets).
